this is an HBO max thing, that aired on TBS for some reason. i know HBO owns turner's stuff now, but i thought they would keep this on the pay site.

some thoughts & things of note;
--the sets look great.
-i'm still disappointed that chris columbus didn't direct all of them. but when they go through how the movies represent different stages of their lives from 11-18, it makes sense to have the different directors.
--there's was no explanation for the stupid hair styles of harry, ron & the twins in #4.
--jason isaacs didn't want to audition for the part of lucius malfoy because he was going to be captain hook & didn't want to be the bad guy in two children's things. (he was thinking of going for gilderoy lockhart) so he said his lines through gritted teeth & the producers/director loved it.
--at one point they thought he slipped in dumbledore's office, but he said; "i just kicked dobby down the stairs." and they put it in.
--when helena bonham carter got going as bellatrix lestrange he wanted to yell at her to shut up.
--rupert grint commenting to daniel radcliffe & emma watson on how long it's been since he's seen them; "i've had kidney stones. i've had a baby."
--david yates trying to justify the harry grabing lord v during their final fight, as well as the harry and hermione dance & me not buying it.

about the vidder )

is vid is sort of a crossover with the neverending story, but instead of the book bastian picked up in that movie it was harry potter. the vid is about him reading the series (contained in one magical book) and his reactions to what he's reading. set to the song of the same name by roxette.

just in case it's needed; spoilers for all 7 books & the movies.

almost unreal

from [personal profile] rthstewart this is back from march because i don't check out her DW often.
If you’ve not followed the epic rants on Twitter, a white male pro author (who is apparently pretty good) and the Guardian suddenly discover Narnia fan fic and wildly praise his scintillating tale of the years before Jadis’ rule and the creation of the Stone Table. The article and a separate opinion piece bemoan that this brilliant story cannot be published nor the author compensated for his amazing work because there is that crotchety thing known as property rights in copyrighted material, in this case owned by the Lewis estate. But, the praise continues, this fan fic is SO good, maybe it's time to re-examine copyright laws!

Oh such a tragedy. Men extolled for writing fan fic (so much so that his friends start lobbying for the law to be changed) and women mocked.

she suggested that those who have written fan fic for a long time (or in my case, just dabble a lot) write a "few hundred words extolling your virtues as a fan fic or other creator in fandom."

so i did

portrait of an obscure writer by jo king

you may have stumbled across her work, but may not know her name. i met up with the the internet user known as archersangel at a local panaera bread where i find that she has entered into a self-professed "goth phase" dressed in all in the requisite black; tail coat, t-shirt, leggings, socks, converse high-tops & a piece of black lace holding back her long, wavy, chestnut hair sprinkled with silver. including round, black frame glasses. plus a fair amount of silver jewelry.

aangel, as she is sometimes known, got her start writing in the old [livejournal.com profile] sg1_five_things community, a.k.a the pentangular gate on live journal in in august 2007. "started as an anonymous poster & then used my blogspot open-id." where she would write 195 "more or less, i messed up on the numbering." pieces. mostly sg-1, but on occasion something for atlantis or universe. she was devastated when the community folded in november 2012 "i'd pour one out, but i don't drink." she commented sadly.

she admits that she was not the most popular poster, with a disregard for punctuation, capitalization & grammar. "i did get some nice replies & one person admitted to tearing up over 2 recurring dreams & 3 recurring nightmares janet fraiser has so i guess that was something."

during her time posting 5 things in 2009 aangel got a dreamwidth account and stumbled across [personal profile] synecdochic 's challenge to put her original character of jd neilson (the young clone of sg-1's jack o'neill from the episode fragile balance) into other fandoms while hitchhiking. she wrote 2 such stories, numbers 7 & 22 on this list.

after her five things run ended, archersangel resigned herself to never posting fic again. but then discovered a 3-scentnce fic-a-thon run by [personal profile] rthstewart in early 2013 and later that year one run by .[livejournal.com profile] caramelsilver aangel confesses to stretching the rules a little. "a run-on sentence is still a stenence." she has written about 3 dozen between the two over the years in a long list of fandoms; star trek (TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, but as of now not ENT) star wars (the original trilogy & the prequels), stargate: sg-1, harry potter, the mummy (1999), a the mummy (1999)/amelia peabody crossover, real person fic "more like historical fiction really.", greek myth, batman (TAS & the burton era movies), buffy the vampire slayer tv series, little women (novel), & even a laura ingalls wilder/wild wild west (tv series) crossover.

after she comes back from refilling her black iced tea, i ask archerangel what other fandoms she might try her hand at. she thinks a moment while tapping a finger with an ebony colored fingernail against ink-stained lips. "maybe the mrs. murphy series by rita mae brown, the midnight louie series by carole nelson douglas, the cat who... series by lillian jackson braun, the sarah kelling series by charlotte macleod, the roma sub rosa series by steven saylor. ncis: new loreans, quantum leam, pehaps the amazing race." she shrugs her shoulders & shakes her head. "and whatever else catches my interest. i guess we'll see."

yes. i'm sure we will.

before we begin, i would like to say a few words. and here they are: nitwit! blubber! oddment! tweak!”

i was at hogwarts (i think) in some room or other. harry had given luna some sort of box (more of a wooden display case to put on a table) to keep this pocket watch-like thing in that she had gotten from someone.

well the two man shaped charms on the watch chain didn't like the box & didn't think luna deserved the pocket watch-like thing and ran off with it.

that was bad enough, but they also took $200,000 (i don't they don't use dollars in the UK, but that's what my brain understands so it put that out) that she had hidden inside the box. i think it was for some sort of dumbledore's army thing.

i was really upset, not just because of the money, but & had scrimped and saved for months to donate $1,000 to the cause. i remember crying that i practically starved just to save a few knuts (i was proud that i had pulled the word out of nowhere). but in the dream i called them copper knuts, but they're really bronze.

this is the first time that i can remember dreaming about harry potter. i mean, it's possible that i did before, but if it's true that you dream 3 times per night & it's been about 16 years since i've seen the first movie. well, you do the math on the possible number of dreams i could've had. it's unlikely that i could recall any HP dreams id i did have any before.

he was born in 1980, which makes him 37.

freeform has bee running the movies all weekend & it's making me want to re-read the series again. i put them on the booklender list (lost my copies in the shuffle of life) to pad out the list when i was running low on titles. but now i've found other books that i've never read before so they get priority over stuff i've read before.

in other fictional july birthdays; indiana jones july 1, 1899 & daniel jackson july 8, 1965

ignoring, for the moment, the reported leaked plot of harry potter and the cursed child, are you interested in seeing the play/reading the book?

i had some vague interest in it at first, but now i'm very much in the indifferent camp. i think that the story ended long ago & there really is no reason to continue it.

on the other hand, i have a small interest in the fantastic beasts and where to find them movie(s).

someone made up a quiz based on the questions you get at pottermore to sort you into a house.
And before you say “omg, that equals to more than a hundred percent!” this quiz works a little differently than most. Instead of questions that are like “"this" answer is the Slytherin one and “this” answer is the clearly Hufflepuff one” I believe that the questions work more like “this option gets you 5 points for Slytherin, this one gets you 4, this one gets you 3 to add up at the end” etc for all the houses, so they’re like “how much is this a _blank house_ thing to do” which is probably a more accurate representation than the former option.

BTW my results: 82% hufflepuff, 76% ravenclaw, 46% griffindor, 36% slythern

in one of the harry potter movies (i can't remember! i'm a bad fan!) harry uses the floo network for the first time & says something that sounds like "diagonally" instead of diagon alley & ends up in knockturn alley. (which is apparently diagonally across from diagon alley.)

that got me to thinking that since you have to speak your destination clearly, that the floo network would be hard to use for people with a speech impediment or an heavy accent. unless it could be worked out that someone else outside of the fireplace-thing could drop the floo powder in the fireplace-thing & say the destination for them.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has taken to revealing new details about the characters in her books through the Pottermore site—because hundreds upon hundreds of printed pages just cannot contain her genius—and she’s finally weighed in on a long debated topic: why the Dursleys hate Harry Potter so much. Sadly, it has nothing to do with that Horcrux theory.

If you’re the kind of fan who prefers to find the new info for themselves, you can head to Pottermore to click around a new interactive Deathly Hallows chapter and find out the new details for yourself, which include not only the reason the Dursley’s hated Harry but other tidbits about Dumbledore and Hagrid and what they meant to Harry.

As for the Dursleys, a convincing fan theory held that, because Horcruxes can influence those around them and Voldemort had made one out of Harry, the Dursleys’ dislike of him was exacerbated by Voldemort’s magic. But Rowling states that as for Vernon Dursley—true to form—he hated Harry for much more human reasons: he felt embarrassed by his father, James Potter, who Harry uncomfortably reminded him of.

so, if your theory was they were petty & jealous, you were right.
