These questions were originally suggested by [livejournal.com profile] alfvaen .

1) Do you like your birth-name? Why?
it's ok. my last name is kind of long & it is often mispronounced. a few times people have added letters that were not there & made it a different name. it's like the difference between schwartz & schwarzkopf (neither are close to my last name). i'm like; why are you doing that? do they see the first few letters & just assume the rest?

2) If you could change your name to anything else, what would it be?
no idea. but a simpler last name would be nice.

3) What names would you consider giving your children?
i'm not interested in having children but i like the older kinds of names; like elizabeth & katherine. james & robert.

4) If you had a band, what would you name it, and why?
it depends on what kind of music the band would play. i think rum runner would be a good band name. also craig ferguson once suggested that chlamydia would be a good punk band name & i think about that now and then.

5) Is there a name that you completely hate? Why?
any name that the parents changed to spelling of to be unique. like ashley being spelled ashleigh. my apologies if someone reading this has done that. but really, it's ridiculous.

way back in jan. of 2019 tumblr cracked down on adult content. a lot of people were looking for a place to go & came here to DW, but thought it was for serious posts onlytm. so [personal profile] sara suggested that the month of febuary be for frivolous posting (more on that in my post here).

it is not mandatory & i'm probably the only person still doing it, but the tradition continues.

this year's theme is star trek, star wars & stargate: sg-1 trivia/quiz type questions that are most likely true. unless someone messed it up.

sg-1 dream

archersangel: (tired)
a few days ago i had this dream that was at SGC i was working with sg-1 on some thing and was going from one area of the base to another. i noticed boxes of stuff stacked everywhere and was told that it was snacks and stuff for people who worked in the SGC.

daniel had a big mug that looked like it was made and decorated by a child, he was drinking coffee (of course). he took a bottle out of one of the boxes that said it was made by the arizona tea company and it had a red liquid in it. he poured some into his coffee. i made a comment about how that wouldn't taste good. he insisted i try it, i don't like coffee, but took a sip. it was barely warm, i tasted a bit of chocolate & then a bit of orange. i thought that was weird, because what he put in was red.

i don't recall tasting anything in my dreams before. it's possible that i did & don't recall it. i told my brother about this (leaving out the sg-1 stuff) and he said that if you see & hear things in dreams, and sometimes feel something; it's likely that you can taste something.

the rest of the title is; The Race to Decode the Rosetta Stone

from amazon;
The Rosetta Stone is one of the most famous objects in the world, attracting millions of visitors to the British museum every year, and yet most people don’t really know what it is. Discovered in a pile of rubble in 1799, this slab of stone proved to be the key to unlocking a lost language that baffled scholars for centuries.

Carved in ancient Egypt, the Rosetta Stone carried the same message in different languages—in Greek using Greek letters, and in Egyptian using picture-writing called hieroglyphs. Until its discovery, no one in the world knew how to read the hieroglyphs that covered every temple and text and statue in Egypt.

Dominating the world for thirty centuries, ancient Egypt was the mightiest empire the world had ever known, yet everything about it—the pyramids, mummies, the Sphinx—was shrouded in mystery. Whoever was able to decipher the Rosetta Stone would solve that mystery and fling open a door that had been locked for two thousand years.

Two brilliant rivals set out to win that prize. One was English, the other French, at a time when England and France were enemies and the world’s two great superpowers.

this is the first book i read in 2025.
it was pretty interesting, going into how the rosetta stone was found, plus some history of ancient egypt that lead to it's creation.
it also goes a bit into written language in general & how hard it is to figure out if you have no frame of reference for it. are the signs/symbols words? sounds? letters? and is it read from left to right? right to left? top to bottom?
there are still some written languages no one knows how to read in this day & age. probably the most well known is Linear A. but there's also the written language of the Etruscans (a.k.a the nearby civilization that early ancient rome stole nearly every concept & idea from). as well as the written language of the Rapa Nui, the people of easter island.

my brother wondered who decided on the "correct" written words for things?
like; one man said this collection of lines means "rock". but another man said no; his collection of lines means "rock". then they started fighting, throwing rocks at each other, & killing each other. a third guy comes along & says this collection of lines means "rock" & everyone went along with it.

MASH (TV), any, a wild animal in the camp )

there's now a 3rd prompt post up, you can still do fills on the first two, but all new prompts need to go in this new one.

i'm not even a third of the way through post number 2 & i'm not sure if i will continue going through it, not to mention the new one. it's almost time for festivids, even though i don't do anything for it other than watch videos & make a post about the ones i like. and then there's frivolous february that i still plan on doing. although i'm not 100% sure of just what to do for that yet.

you can fill as many prompts as you want, even if someone else did a fill. and post prompts of your own.
you don't have to post a prompt in order to fill one. i only started posting prompts a few years ago after years of filling them.
